Greenflag awardAward Winners Finish Strong   

Eco-Schools USA congratulates Gwin Elementary, the most recent school to earn the prestigious Green Flag award. Gwin is the 18th Green Flag school in the U.S. and the first in Alabama. Congratulations to all of you who finished this school year with a new feather in your cap, whether it be Bronze, Silver, or Green Flag Award! And if you haven't yet applied for an award, we encourage you to check the criteria and do so as soon as you qualify! 



U.S. Student Wins Top Video Prize in International Young Reporters Competition

Bike trail sign by Zachary KorffIn May, first place winners of the Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) USA competition proceeded to the international YRE competition for another round of judging. We are proud to report that Zachary Korff, winner of the U.S. video category, was also awarded first place in his age category internationally for his video about mountain biking trails.

STEM Spark: America's Home Energy Education ChallengeGreen STEM

Each month Eco-Schools USA brings you a new opportunity for STEM learning through the lens of sustainability.

Registration is now open for schools wishing to participate in America's Home Energy Education Challenge in 2013-2014. The program, from NSTA and the U.S. Department of Energy, engages student teams (grades 3-8) in monitoring their energy consumption and competing against other schools for cash prizes of up to $10,000. Rieke Elementary Creates Outdoor Classroom Video rieke elementary green flag award

Rieke Elementary in Portland, Oregon earned a Green Flag award at the beginning of this past school year. They ended the year by creating an amazing video that celebrates the completion of their outdoor classroom and schoolyard habitat.
