Students Have Their Hands Full Saving Food, Energy and Water

Over 30 colleges and universities have offered trayless dining halls on a permanent or trial basis in the last year. The hope is that this movement will prevent students from being able to fill their trays with food that would end up uneaten and thrown in the garbage. Ideally, trayless dining will reduce wasted food, cut water usage, slash energy bills and lower GHG emissions.

PERSPECTIVE: Changing Curriculum Connects Faculty with Each Other, Students with Their Environment

University of Washington
Jean MacGregor
“More undergraduates need to encounter sustainability concepts in their courses, particularly in ways that relate to where they live, work, and play. To accomplish that goal, we need to engage large numbers of faculty members in sustainability teaching. And we need to demonstrate how sustainability ideas operate close at hand—on our campuses and in our surrounding communities.”
