National Wildlife Federation Action Fund Endorses Tom Wolf for Pennsylvania Governor

"Tom Wolf understands the concerns of Pennsylvania's sportsmen, fighting to conserve our wildlife and wild places, expand outdoor recreation, protect our clean water and air, and confront climate change," said Collin O'Mara, board member of the NWF Action Fund president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation, the Action Fund's 501(c)3 sister organization. "Gov. Corbett's administration has weakened protections for our national resources and has repeatedly putting special interests ahead of Pennsylvania's wildlife and public health. Tom Wolf would truly be a fresh start for all Pennsylvanians who love the outdoors."

The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund has endorsed Tom Wolf for governor of Pennsylvania. Wolf has distinguished himself on a series of key concerns for sportsmen, including protecting and investing in state parks, wildlife areas, and state forests, strengthening protections for our air and water from natural gas extraction, and confronting climate change.

“Tom Wolf understands the concerns of Pennsylvania’s sportsmen, fighting to conserve our wildlife and wild places, expand outdoor recreation, protect our clean water and air, and confront climate change,” said Collin O’Mara, board member of the NWF Action Fund president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation, the Action Fund’s 501(c)3 sister organization. “Gov. Corbett’s administration has weakened protections for our national resources and has repeatedly putting special interests ahead of Pennsylvania’s wildlife and public health. Tom Wolf would truly be a fresh start for all Pennsylvanians who love the outdoors.”

Wolf has laid out plans to make progress on a range of conservation issues critical to sportsmen:

  • Invest in Pennsylvania’s outdoor infrastructure. Through his Growing Greener III initiative, Wolf wants to invest in Pennsylvania’s public lands and reinstate the moratorium on drilling in state parks and forests. Unlike Gov. Corbett, Tom Wolf will take a stand for sportsmen against special interest bills like the one pushed by gas and coal interests to strip state scientists of their ability to protect Pennsylvania’s wildlife.
  • Strengthen regulations governing Pennsylvania’s fracking industry. While Gov. Corbett’s administration has weakened regulatory standards that protect Pennsylvanians’ health, Wolf has pledged to protect Pennsylvania’s drinking water, enact common sense drilling regulations, and make frackers pay their fair share towards protecting our outdoor heritage.
  • Acting on climate change and strengthening the economy. Wolf has promised to implement Pennsylvania’s Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, invest in clean energy to create local jobs, and expand energy efficiency programs to help families and businesses save money on their energy bills.

“I am grateful for the endorsement of the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund,” said Tom Wolf. “Its members have been vocal advocates for protecting our wildlife and habitats, and I am excited about the prospect of working with them to implement policies protect our wildlife and continue preservation and conservation efforts.”

An estimated 2.7 million people took part in fishing, hunting and other wildlife-related recreation in Pennsylvania generating $2.7 billion in economic activity in 2011, according to the most recent U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service survey.

Also in Pennsylvania this year, the NWF Action Fund has endorsed Rep. Michael Fitzpatrick (R-8th) for re-election.
