24 Hour Push to Save Wolves from Dirty Oil

Wildlife advocates join over 800,000 Americans demanding that Congress stop the dangerous Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

Last week, over a period of just 24 hours, 802,120 Americans from all walks of life united with a very important message for Congress: stop the Keystone XL tar sands oil pipeline.

The aim of this unprecedented effort was to generate half a million messages in 24 hours to urge the U.S. Senate to back away from legislation that would resurrect this dangerous project. Almost 40 national and state advocacy organizations worked together to rally their members, and you responded accordingly--surpassing this ambitious goal in only seven hours.

This was not the first time we've seen such an outpouring of opposition to this dangerous project, and it won't be the last. The threats to wildlife and natural resources from the proposed Keystone XL pipeline--including potentially devastating toxic oil spills on its route through endangered whooping crane habitat and the risks to thousands of wolves that may be poisoned from expansion of Canadian tar sands operations--have sparked an outcry from wildlife advocates across the country.

Over the past two years, the groundswell of public opposition--from messages and phone calls, to turnout at rallies, to letters in newspapers--helped lead to President Obama's decision in January to reject the permit. But since then, Congress has been relentless in trying to resurrect the project--threatening the president with "huge political consequences" and spreading misinformation. In their latest desperate ploy, some members of Congress have proposed an amendment to the transportation bill to fast-track the Keystone XL.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this day of action a success by demanding our elected officials do the right thing. The fight to protect wildlife from dirty oil cannot be won without you.
