NWF Action Fund Endorses Matt Cartwright for U.S. House
Candidate Supports Clean Energy, Conservation Policies
April 19, 2012 – The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund has endorsed Matt Cartwright in the Democratic primary for U.S. House of Representatives in Pennsylvania's 17th Congressional district. Cartwright is challenging Rep. Tim Holden (D-PA).
"Matt Cartwright has made clear he'll be a leader in Congress on the issues that matter most to outdoor enthusiasts, championing policies that ensure thriving wildlife, clean air and water, and safeguarded public lands that benefit all Pennsylvanians," said Sue Brown, executive director of the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund. "He understands that we can have a strong agricultural industry as well as a clean environment."
Matt Cartwright is a Scranton attorney who's been willing to take on big polluters and hold them accountable. Meanwhile, Rep. Holden voted against the 2009 American Clean Energy and Security Act, supported the Halliburton Loophole to exempt fracking from the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act, and is co-sponsor of a bill to stop clean-up of the Chesapeake Bay.
"Matt Cartwright is a true conservationist who knows the importance of safe and clean local waterways," said Brown. "He understands that hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation has an important economic impact in Pennsylvania and that these industries depend on protected natural resources."
Hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation provide more than $4.5 billion in economic activity annually in Pennsylvania and support 150,000 jobs in the state.
