NWF Action Fund PAC Endorses Angus King for U.S. Senate

Independent Candidate a "Breath of Fresh Air" on Conservation

The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund Political Action Committee (PAC) has endorsed independent candidate Angus King in Maine’s U.S. Senate race.

“Independent candidate Governor Angus King is a breath of fresh air on the key conservation issues of the day. From clean water and air, to protecting our land and forest resources, to climate change and clean energy, Angus King is the right person at the right time,” said Sue Brown, executive director of the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund PAC. “Governor King has been dedicated, whether in private life or public service, to the conservation issues that have defined Maine from Senators Muskie to Snowe and we are proud to formally endorse his candidacy for the U.S. Senate.”

According to Gov. King, “As Maine's Governor I had a record of reaching out across the aisle on natural resource issues. Whether it was protecting groundwater, cleaning up Maine's rivers, or expanding land acquisition for Maine's future - my office worked as a team with the legislature. That's the only way things got done was to work together. I am ready to take this same approach of bipartisanship to Washington to protect natural resources. I am pleased to receive the endorsement of the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund PAC and their members.”

Angus King was elected as an Independent to consecutive terms as governor of Maine in 1994 and 1998. King delivered results for hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts by enacting new clean air and water protections, protecting over 1.6 million acres from development and ensuring public access, and building or restoring more than 100 boat access sites. After leaving office, King co-founded Independence Wind, a wind power utility company.

“Angus King understands that hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation have a huge economic impact in Maine and that these industries depend on healthy natural resources,” said Brown.

A million people hunt, fish, or watch wildlife in Maine each year, providing $1.5 billion in annual economic activity, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
