New NWF Action Fund Ad Exposes Wilson's Questionable Values

Wilson Put Special Interest Donors Ahead of New Mexico's Best Interests

The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund is launching a six-figure television advertising campaign in New Mexico this week. "Way of Life" features a New Mexico sportsman voicing voters' disappointment in Rep. Heather Wilson siding with her Big Oil donors over New Mexico's wildlife and public health.

As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Wilson voted repeatedly to shield chemical manufacturers and oil companies from being held accountable for contaminating groundwater and water systems at hundreds of sites throughout New Mexico with the gasoline additive called MTBE. Over her political career, Wilson has taken more than $700,000 from oil and gas companies.

"Heather Wilson faced a simple choice--hold polluters accountable for threatening New Mexico's public health and natural resources, or let her Big Oil backers off the hook. She didn’t just fail that test once--she failed it four times," said Kent Salazar, a lifelong New Mexico sportsman featured in the ads. "We can't trust Heather Wilson to protect New Mexico's outdoor heritage if she won't stand up for our clean water."

Hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation pump nearly $4 billion into the New Mexico's economy every year and support 47,000 jobs, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The National Wildlife Federation Action Fund has endorsed Rep. Martin Heinrich in New Mexico's U.S. Senate race. However, the ads are not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee. Rep. Heinrich has a long track record of strong support for clean energy solutions, safeguarding clean air and water, and preserving and opening access to public lands – three critical issues for sportsmen this election.
