Safeguarding Wildlife from Global Warming
WORKSHOP: "Assessing Climate Impacts on Washington's Fish and Wildlife" February 13, 2009 Evergreen State College Longhouse, Olympia, Washington |
|
On February 13th, 2009, the Pacific Regional Center of the National Wildlife Federation, in partnership with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and the Washington Biodiversity Council, held a workshop to assess how wildlife and wildlife habitats in Washington State are being affected by global warming. The workshop brought together scientists, resource managers and policy specialists to assess the impacts of global warming on wildlife and natural systems and to identify management actions we should take to help safeguard wildlife in a warming world.
The results from this and future workshops will help scientists and resource managers understand and address the impacts of global warming on the state’s fish and wildlife. In addition, this workshop will help WDFW incorporate climate change impacts into its Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy, which identifies the species and habitats of greatest conservation need.
Below are resources from the workshop, including the executive summary of the day, notes from the breakout sessions, and speaker's presentations (please note: larger files will take longer to load).
