Confronting Global Warming Through Federal Legislation

Capitol BuildingGlobal warming is the single biggest threat to our wildlife and wild places, which is why the National Wildlife Federation is working hard to move the U.S. Congress to pass strong climate and clean energy legislation to confront this challenge.

Congress is working to set America on a new energy pathway that combines clean energy incentives and firm limits on carbon pollution to help drive America's economic recovery. On June 26, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES). Now it's up to the Senate.

The Latest News -- On September 30, 2009, the Environment and Public Works Committee of the U.S. Senate introduced the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act, which pledges to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2020. If passed, the bill would ensure the Environment Protection Agency's ability to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and provide funding to protect wildlife from the effects of climate change.
