Monarch butterfly populations have dropped off by an estimated 90 percent in the last two decades. The losses have been so great that in 2014, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was petitioned to protect the monarch butterfly under the Endangered Species Act.
But the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act will help reverse these declines to keep the monarch butterfly from disappearing forever. Funding from the bill will power state fish and wildlife agencies’ joint efforts with federal and private partners to protect and restore monarch’s crucial milkweed habitat and reverse the increased use of harmful herbicides and pesticides.
